Week Two of ELL!
Week Two of the English Language Learners workshop is upon us. Last week, the children made some terrific table top movies, but this week is going to be even better (which is difficult to imagine, I know).
This week the students are going to be focusing on technical writing. They will do everything from inventing a machine and writing an instruction manual to accompany it to picking a random subject and writing a textbook about it. This is some pretty exciting stuff and the students are really getting into it. Why only today, they invented a homework machine (because we'd rather be playing outside), a house building machine (because everyone needs a house), and a people cloning machine (because who wouldn't want to clone themselves).
Also coming up this week the children will be preparing business proposals. They will imagine their own business ideas and pitch them to all of ELL. The best ones will win one million dollars to fund their start ups! Just kidding, they will be rewarded with the pride of a job well done, which some have said is much more valuable.
After they try their hand at being entrepreneurs, they will also create lists of Frequently Asked Questions on topics of their choosing. At the end of the week, we will bind a volume of all of the work compiled from this week and give each student a copy.
