Blog Series: Life as an 826LA Intern

Summer is approaching, and you know what that means: new interns! They will embark on a journey unlike any other, helping students write plays, screenplays, news stories, and maybe even some poetry.

Let us introduce Eb and Taylor Stacey, who chose different POV's for their introductory bio's to 826LA. (Teaching students an already essential lesson on POV).

Eb: Once, there was a little girl. Her name was Elizabeth. In her early years of education, somewhere in between fighting over the red crayon and nap time, she was asked to write her name. Dumbfounded, Elizabeth realized just how many letters were in her name, and how unfair it seemed that the other kids had less. Right then and there, she took matters into her own hands, and began rapidly eliminating the unnecessary letters. Z? Who has a Z in their name? And right next to an A? That doesn't make sense. She chipped away until she was left with the least letters possible: E and B. From that moment on, she was deemed "Eb" (EEEEEEEBEEEEE). She's pretty sure this how she landed her internship at 826LA: her creative editing skills know no bounds. In her time here, she hopes to help other kids seek creative name justice, and maybe write some fantastical stories along the way.

Taylor: Over the last few years I’ve done a lot of my own projects with kids. I’ve tutored in math and writing and started several book clubs. In all of these ventures, the importance of individual attention and focus on learning type has really struck me. In the crazy world of ERBs, ISEEs, and SATs, 826 seems to recognize the value of these things. This attention has been vital to the development of my own writing, from my first short story to my latest academic paper. I’m so excited to see how this is applied to every aspect of the organization and to watch others benefit from it. My time here is just beginning, and in the months to come I will learn so much more about 826 and what it’s all about.
