Before Romeo and Juliet, there was "Romeus and Juliet," a narrative poem by Arthur Brooke. After Romeo and Juliet, there was West Side Story. Even William Shakespeare, the greatest playwright of the English language, took his stories from somewhere—and the process of adaptation continues to this day. Shakespeare updated the old stories for his own time. Who is going to update them for our time? You are.

Lysandra Petersson is a writer and filmmaker living in Culver City. She hails from Staunton, Virginia, where she was involved with the American Shakespeare Center (ASC) from a young age. Throughout her high school years, she attended ASC's Young Company Theatre Camp, where she learned Shakespeare's syntax, canon, and the historical context of his work. After graduating from Hampshire College in 2004, Lysandra shot, directed and edited a feature-length documentary, Thunder at a Playhouse. The film follows several young people through their experience in the Young Company program, and examines the impact of such arts programs on the emotional and intellectual development of high school students. Lysandra is currently working on several projects, including several screenplays and a collection of creative nonfiction.
