When Wallets Eat Words
Taught by James Ponsoldt
Ages 8-12
Saturday, March 1, 2008 (Please note the change from the original February 16 date.)
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
This workshop takes place at 826LA East
1714 Sunset Blvd., Echo Park, CA 90026

Wallets are wonderful. They hold pictures of your grandchildren and make you more attractive to would-be identity thieves. They don't, however, provide enough reading material. You can only re-read the face of that dollar bill so many times. Wouldn't it be great if wallets had stories written inside them?

In this workshop, students will learn to put together the three parts of a story (beginning, middle, and end). Then, they will write stories that will be printed on the inner linings of wallets designed by the friendly folks at Poketo. Every student, of course, will receive a free wallet.

Born and raised in Athens, Georgia, James Ponsoldt received a BA in English from Yale and an MFA in directing from Columbia University's Graduate Film Program. His short films have played at festivals worldwide, including Tribeca, Clermont-Ferrand, Seattle, Edinburgh, Toronto, and Palm Springs. His first feature, Off the Black, premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Recently, he workshopped his new screenplay, Refresh, Refresh, at the 2007 Sundance Screenwriters' Lab.
